Master Plompton, I recomennd me unto you, and thanke you
for your letter; and it happyn (ed Miles went with mea) that day,
with whom I have broken the matter. I felt him well disposed,
and even forthwith I have sent my mynd to Sir Thomas Male-
verer,b that he wilbe appliable to reason and doe wel. I shall in
hast have word againe from him. I pray you lobor herin, and soe
will I doe; and in conclusion, if other of them be obstynat, and
will not be counselled by frinds, the Kings grace will be myscon-
tent with him, whatsover he be, and I, and you. Written in hast
at my poore mannor of Overton.c
Your owne, WILLIAM, ABBAT OF YORKE.da The words between brackets are in paler ink, their place having been at first left
blank. We should probably read, Miles Willesthorp was with me, for the words at-
tempted to be decyphered which had puzzled the copyist.b Sir Thomas Maulevere, of Allerton, knight banneret, died before 2 Sept. 11 Hen.
VII. 1495, leaving Elizabeth his wife executrix, and a son and heir Richard, married
to Joan, daughter of Sir Robert Plumpton. (Chartul. No. 799.)c At Overton the abbots of York had their chief country residence. Over this
word is written in the pale ink Wreton.d William Sever, alias Seveyr, elected Bishop of Carlisle, 11 Dec. 1495.
