After my duety, please yt your good mastership to wyt þat Sir John
Rocliffe & Master Antony Clifford2 [. . .]a send for me to Notingam, &
when I came þither they asked me whether I had brought money, and
I shewed them ye herd receiued it alredy, & then they were very
angree, with many sore words. I was neuer so werie & soferd of my
life since I was borne; & they wrote euery word I sayd & more; & I
trow, but þat they were in troble before, I shold neuer have escaped
them; & all ther seruant beated me one after another. I trust I shall
hold me at home if they send for me; & euer they thratte me þat I
shold goe to London, & if I wold come up vnsent for yt shold be þe
better for me; & if I taryed tyll I were sent fore I shold be vndone.
Wherfore, Sir, I pray you let yt be loked to if they wold take out any
accon against me. I bere me much of Master Sacheuerell, which is
your stuard;3 but they had me in þat case, whatsoeuer they sayd I durst
not say nay, nor I wist not what I sayd nor what I did.Your bayley & seruant William Sandersonb

1 On 2 July 1500 Robert Bubwith and Richard Burgh appointed William Sanderson
and William Sacheverell their attornies to take seisin of the Derbys manors of Edensor,
Stainton, Pilsley and Darley, of which the last-named had been awarded to the Plumptons
in 1483, 120; App. II, 58.2 Apparently Elizabeth Sotehill’s attorney.
3 By charter dated 7 March 1501 Thomas Sotehill, son and heir of John Sotehill
enfeoffed Bubwith and Burgh in his manors of Ockbrook, Spondon, Chaddesden, and
Hassop, of which the last-named was still in Plumpton hands, and appointed William

LETTER CXXIV.
To my right worshipfull master, Sir Robart Plompton, knight.
After my duety, pleaseth your good mastership to wyt, that Sir

Burrow constituted William Saucheverell and William Sanderson their attornies, to take
possession of the manors of Edensor, Derley, Stanton, and Pillesley, com. Derb. and
of Combridge and Crakemarsh, com. Stafford, which they had by force of the feofment
made by Richard Fawberge to them and their heirs. (See Letter XCV.)
