218 William Plumpton to Sir Robert Plumpton, 10 June [?1519] (No. 91,
p. 51)Right worshipfull Sir, after dew recomendations had, I homly recomend
me vnto you & to my lady & mother in law, beseching you for your
dayly blessing. Sir, I haue bene dyverse tymes before the iudges for my
matters, but I can have none <end> as yet, except my cousin Babthorp
myght haue all ?e lands in Hemyngbroguh [. . .] and I to have Waton,
Northcaysse, Medelton, Wyston, and lands in Beverley1 to the valow
of xls, & forest land in Selby to ?e valow of xxs, and iijli land more, or
lxli in money; & to give answer the first day of ?e next tearme.
Wherfore, Sir, I besech you of your best counsell herin, by this bearer; &
as for your owne matter before Master Dance, Olever hath wrytten to
you ?e scertayntie therof; and as for Mr Woyd, I had money so much
to do as to stope the out lawey this terme. Wherfore, Sir, I besech you
to make some search therfore, for yt is a great danger, as the world is
at this day; as Jhesu knowes, who preserve you in health. Wrytten at
Sacum, the x day of June. Sir, I besech you give credence to this
bearer.By your owne son to his litle power William Plomptona

To my right worshipfull and my especiall good father Sir Robart
Plompton, kt. be thes delivered.Right worshipfull Sir, after dew recomendations had, I homly
recomend me unto you and to my lady and mother-in-law, be-
seching you for your dayly blessing. Sir, I have bene dyverse
tymes before the judges for my matters but I can have none end
as yet, except my cusin Bathorp myght have all the lands in
Hemyngbrough........ and I to have Waton, Northcayffe, Medel-

a The dispute between "William Plompton and Isabel his wife: of the one party, and
"Wiliam batthorp, gent, and Anas [Agnes] his wife, of the other party, "concerning
the ancient estates of the family of Babthorpe in Yorkshire, was continued till after
the death of Sir Robert Plumpton kt. his father, for by bond dated 2 May, 16 Hen.
VII. 1524, it was agreed to refer all matters to the arbitration of Sir Lewis Polard
and Sir Richard Broke, kts. tow of the King's Justices of the Common Pleas, and
to Sir William Gascoigne, kt. Treasurer of the right reverend father in God, Thomas
Lord Cardinal, Legate of the See of Rome, Archbishop of York, Primate and Chancel-
lor of England, and to Ralph Swillington, Attorney to our Sovereign Lord the King.
