130 William Elleson to Sir Robert Plumpton [1498/9] (No. 141, p. 86)
Right worshipfull Sir, I comend me to you. Sir, this day I receyued
your letter, by the which ye desyred me to be at Helagh1 vpon
Myghellmas even. Sir, pat day I may not keepe, for I must then be at
Malton for my Lord Clifford, for keeping of his court.2 But if it please
you to send to Master [...]a Babthorppe, which is yet at Dighton,3 to
appoynt Fryday or Satterday before Myghellmas Day, or Fryday or
Satterday next after Myghellmas, I shall then attend of you, with the
grace of God; & of the day that ye appoynt, I pray you send me word
by my servant. Sir, I pray you [. . .]b hold me excused of the breaking
of my promyse, for I was vij nyghts from home more then I went I
should haue bene when I rodde forth; & thus God preserve you.

St John the Evangelist, Healaugh Park, near Wetherby, recording grants made by Peter
de Plumpton and others.2 Henry, 10th Lord Clifford, later 1st earl of Cumberland (d.1542). Elleson was
apparently his steward at Malton.3 Kirk Deighton, near Plumpton.

To his right worshipfull master, Sir Robart Plompton, kt.
Right worshipfull Sir, I comend me to you. Sir, this day I
