110 William Arthington to Sir Robert Plumpton 4 April [before 1494] (No.
166, p. 107)Right reuerent & worshipfull master, I recomend me to your mastership,
certyfiing you þat John pullan & I meett this day at Castley, which
John brought with him Harry Dickinson & John Tomlinson to support
him & to testyfie his talke. Sir, þe dayes men canot agre vs, so Mr
Mydleton make þe end. Wherfore I wold besech your said mastership
þat yt wold please you to cause some of your servants to goe to þe
sayd Mr Midleton, & þe bringer herof to goe [p. 108] with him, to
whome I besech you giue credence, þat ye & the sayd Master Midleton
wold assigne a day & a place, þat I may know the same & attend vpon
him, beseching your sayd mastership pat it wold please you, if [. . .]a ye
so may, tobe at þe endmaking, or els I fere me we shall haue no end
for myn avantag, & all by þe meanes of þe said John Tomlinson; for
he seketh all þe meanes þat he can to put me from yt, as I am
enformed, both to þe sayd Nichellas Midleton and also to my lord of
Fountance. Sir, I shold haue comen to your mastership, but I must
ned ride to Connesburgh for matters of my moders in law;b wherfore
I besech your mastership to pardon me. Nomore at this tyme, but þe
blessed Trenete preserue you in worship to his pleasure. Writtin at
Arthington Hall the iiijth day of Apryll.By your owne seruant William Arthingtonc

LETTER LIII.
To my right worshipfull master, Sir Robart Plompton, knight, be
thes delivered.Right reverent and worshipfull master, I recomend me to your
mastership, certyfing you that John Pullan and I meett this day
at Castley, which John brought with him Herry Dickinson and
John Tomlinson to support him, and to testyfie his talke. Sir,
the dayes men cannot agre us, so Mr. Myleton a to make the
end. Wherfore I wold besech your sayd mastership, that yt wold
