75 Thomas Wymbersley, abbot of Kirkstall¹, to Sir Robert Plumpton [before
1496] (No. 69, p. 40)

Right worshipfull & my full trusty, enterley beloued gossep, after all
herty recomendations as I can thinke, I pray you hartely to be good &
tender master and lord to Thomas Hirst, my full speciall freind, in
such matters as he hath to labor vnto you; & ?e more tender at this
my poore prayer & instaunce, & for the loue of my godson, to whom
I besech almyghty God to give good grace to encrease in vertue; and
you, with my lades, your mother² & your wyfe, my comedre, to preserve
in worship & favor vnto his pleasure & harts ease. From Kyrkestall in
haste, vpon Munday next before St Luke Day, evangelest.

LETTER XXVII.

To my right worshipfull and enterly beloved gossep, Sir Robart
Plompton, knyght.

    Right worshipfull and my full trusty enterly beloved gossep,
after all harty recomendations as I can thinke, I pray you hartely
to be good and tender master and lord to Thomas Hirst, my full
speciall freind, in such matter as he hath to labor unto you; and
the more tender at this my poore prayer and instaunce, and for
the love of my godson, to whom I besech Almyghty God to
give good grace to encrease in vertue, and you, with my lades, your
mother and your wyfe, my comered, to preserve in worship and
favour, unto his pleasure and harts ease. From Kyrkestall in hast,
upon munday next before St. Luke Evangelist.

a Thomas Wymbersley, Abbot of Kirkstal from 6 April 1468 to 1498.?William
was the name of the eldest son of Sir Robert Plumpton, and it was to him that the
abbot had probably stood godfather.
