thereof, desire and pray you to forbere and contynue to do any

wyse for the reformacion therof, as I trust shall agre with right

formed.
Your Cousin
HEN. NORTHUMBERLAND.ba Sir William Beckwith, kt. one of the feed-man of the Earl of Northumberland, (see
Letter XIV.) was dead before 19 Aug. 11 Hen. VII. 1496, when Elizabeth, his relict,
released to Sir Robert Plumpton, kt. and his heirs, all right and title in the lands of
which their father, Sir William Plumpton, kt. died seised. (Chartul. No. 782.) See
also Letter V, notec at page 6.b As it is impossible to distinguish with certainty between the undated letters of
Henry the fourth Earl, and those of his son the fifth Earl of Northumberland, in
every instance, I have inserted several consecutively in this place, though there can be
no doubt that this letter is to be attributed to the father. The son was born 13 Jan.
1477-8, and had a special livery of his lands in the thirteenth year or Hen. VII. before
he had fully attained his majority; his letters will therefore date from after the year
1497-8.
