weighty considerations [. . .]a me mouing concerning the pleasure of the
kings highnes, on the behalue of his grace, charge you and on my
desire [. . .]b pray you ?at ye with such a company, and as many as ye
may bring with you (with your) ease, such as ye trust, hauing bowes &
arrowes & pryvy harnest, (cum with) my [. . .]c nepvew Sir William
Gascougne, so ?at ye be with me vpon Munday (next comeing) at
nyght in the towne of Thirske, not failong herof, as my (special) trust
is in you, & as ye love me. Written in my mannor of Seemer,2 the xxiij

LETTER XXV.
To my right hartely beloved Cousin, Sir Robart Plompton, Kt.
Right hartely beloved Cosin, I comannd me unto you, and for
right weighty consideration me moving concerning the pleasure of
the Kings highnes, on the behalve of his grace, charg you, and on
my desire pray you, that ye with such a company, and as many as
ye may bring with your ease, such as ye trust, having bowes and
arrowes, and pryvy harnest, com with my nepvew, Sir William
Gascougne, so that ye be with me upon munday next comeing at
nyght, in the towne of Thirske; not failing herof, as my speciall
turst is in you, and as ye love me. Written in my mannor of
Semar, the xxiiii day of Aprill.

(24 April 1489.) HEN. NORTHUMBERLAND.aa This summons was sent on the Saturday immediately preceding the day of the riot
at Cocklodge, in which the Earl of Northumberland was slain, being Wednesday, the
feast of St. Vitalis, 28th of April , 1489. For his services in suppressing this com-
motion, Sir Robert Plumpton was in this same year (30 Oct.) thanked by King
Henry. (See the letter of Hen. VII. in the Memoirs.)
