120 Richard Empson1 to Sir William Gascoigne, 7 September [possibly
1497] (No. 79, p. 44)Master Gascoygne, after most harty comenndations, pleaseth you to
wyt that Richard Falbarne,2 late clarke to Bryan Rowclife, according
to the trust put in him, hath made astate of dyuers maners, lands and
tenements, late Sir William Plompton in the county of Yorke,3 wherwith,
as it is sayd, Sir Robart Plompton taketh dyspleasure, and his servants
speake such words & so to demeane them selfes that the poor man for
dread dare not apply his busines. Sir, I heare þat ye be frend to þe
sayd Sir Robart; I pray you move him þat the pore man may passe
his busines in Gods peace and the kyngs, the rather at this my motion,
ore þat ye wyll please to send me word of his disposition, to thentent
I may further do & provide that best may before the poore mans suerty
in this partie, and þat I may know the sayd Sir Robart is disposition
by you herin; whereby ye shall bynd me to do your good pleasures, if
it be in me. So knoweth our lord God, who preserue you. Fro Gascoyn,a

LETTER XCV.
To the right worshipfull Sir William Gascoygne, Kt. deliver these.
Master Gascoygne, after most harty comenndations, pleaseth
you to wyt that Richard Falbarne, late clarke to Bryan Rowclife,

(7 Sept. 149-.)a The feofment of Sir William Plompton, of Plompton, com. Ebor. kt. of his manors
and lands in the counties of Nottingham, Derby, and Stafford, under which Richard
Fawberg had the legal estate as surviving feoffee, was dated 1 Jun. 4 Edw. IV. 1464.
The conveyance by the latter here spoken of, was make before 2 July, 15 Hen. VII.
1500, of which date is the letter of attorney to William Saucheverell and William San-
derson from Robert Bubwith, clerk, and Richard Burrow, chaplain, who claimed
under it, to take seisin in their names. (MS. Add. 6698.)b Sic, sed lege Easton, the name of the seat of Sir Richard Empson in the county
