115 Percival Lambton to Sir Robert Plumpton, 9 February [1495/6] (No.
171, p. 110)[p. 111] Please yt your good mastership to vnderstand, your seruant &
atturney, Mr Owen Barley,1 desired mee to labor to my lord of Duresm2
that sum meanes might bee found to excuse your appearance if the
priuy seale were deliuered unto you, which one Kilburn3 labored
against you this last term; and according to his desire I haue labored
at diuerse tymes. My lord shewed me dyuerse things which was shewed
him in þat matter, as I shall shew your mastership at lasor; & in
conclusion this is his mynd: if the privie seale be deliuered you afore
his comyng home into þat country, which I trust wilbe about þe iiijth
weeke of Lente, thin he wold ye shold set seale your selfe & send a
seruant to me as shortly as ye can, & he & I shall purvey a remedy þat
ye shall take no hurt therby; & if ye privie seale be not deliuered afore
my lords comyng home, than he sayeth þat he will send for þe partie, &
cause þe matter be exomyned endefferently; & thus he was content þat
I shold wryt vnto your mastership. 4 And therfore dowt not in this
matter, but take your ease & in no wyse charg yourselfe with comyng
upp for this matter, thoffe the privie seale be deliuered vnto you. Herin,
I assure you, I shall giue as great delygence as the matter were myne
owne, & thus our lord God preserue your mastership to your most
comforth. At Lyncolnes Inn, the xith day of February. By þe hand ofYour seruant Percivall Lambtona

LETTER XC.
To my good master Sir Robart Plompton, knyght, at Plompton, in
hast.Plese yt your good mastership to understand, your servant and
atturney, Mr. Owen Barley, desired mee to labor to my lord of
Duresm,a that sum meanes might be found to excuse your appear-
ance, if the privy seale were delivered unto you, which one Kil-
