5 1 April 1418, Plumpton
Memorandum that Robert de Plompton, kt, enfeoffed Henry FitzHugh, lord of Ravensworth and treasurer of England, Dame Margaret de Rempston, Dame Alice de Plompton, his mother, John de Grene of Newby, William Ferman, parson of Kirkby Overblow and John Bren- nand of Knaresborough in the manors of Plumpton Nessfield, Idle and Steeton with appurtenances, together with the reversions of all his lands and tenements, rents, reversions and services in Grassington and Studley held for life by the aforesaid Alice, with reversion to Robert by inheritance after her death, as is plainly set out in his charter of feoffment.
Condition: that the aforesaid feoffees shall secure to Godfrey, son of Sir Robert, a life annuity of a clear 20m from land or rents out of the aforesaid premises. If it should happen that Sir Robert, about to go on foreign service, should not return, the feoffees are to secure to his son Robert a life annuity of a clear 20m out of the same properties. If either Godfrey or Robert should die, his portion is to remain to the other, with remainder after the deaths of both to the feoffees in perpetuity.
Above this the feoffees are to enfeoff Sir Robert’s valet John Wode for life in a tenement in Plumpton now in the tenure of John Lightfoot; likewise Sir Robert’s servant Robert Norton in a tenement with appurtenances in Plumpton, which he sometime held, with reversion after the deaths of these two beneficiaries to the feoffees in perpetuity.
Also the feoffees are to pay Sir Robert’s debts and carry out his wishes as expressed in his testament.
Also Joan1 and Alice Sir Robert’s daugthers, and his sisters Isabel and Katherine are each to receive marriage portions of 40m out of the issues of the manor of Nessfield, and Richard Plompton his brother is to have a life annuity of 40s out of the same issues. [Latin]
