Letter Patent from Henry VII appointing his justices John Vavasor and John Fissher together with those associated with them to hold an assize of novel disseisin, to which Thomas Lindeley, John Swayle, snr, Richard Kyghley, John Allen, clerk and William Lindley1 are to be summoned by the king’s writ versus John Roucliffe, kt, and Margaret his wife and Elizabeth Sotehill, widow, in respect of tenements in Edensor and Pilsley. They are to hold the assize by royal mandate on a certain day and place, and do justice in accordance with the law and custom of England, saving the king’s amercements thence issuing. The sheriff of Yorks is to issue a writ of scire facias stating the date and venue to bring the contestants into court. Signed, William Warham.2
