Indenture between Sir William Plompton, kt, and William Gascoigne, esq., witnessing an agreement for the marriage of Robert son and heir of Sir William and Agnes sister of William Gascoigne, the marriage to take place between this day and the forthcoming feast of St Andrew [30 Nov.]. Sir William will provide within a month of the marriage a sufficient estate in jointure to them and their lawful heirs, worth a clear £20 a year, out lands and tenements within the lordship of Kinoulton, Notts. Remainder, in case of lack of heirs, to the right heirs of Sir William.
Sir William guarantees that neither he nor any other feoffee to his use shall make any lease or feoffment of any lands or tenements belonging to him for the agreements already entered into with Henry Sothill and Brian Roclif without the knowledge of William Gascoigne. Should it be held by the advice of Gascoigne’s council that insufficient provision had been made for Robert and his heirs, the insufficiency will be made good by Sir William; fines and recoveries only excepted.
For the marriage, William Gascoigne shall pay £100 by installments, viz.: £20 on the day of the wedding, or within a month thereafter, and 40m a year thenceforward, for which payment he and two others shall be bound to Sir William by their several obligations. The wedding dinner and the bride’s clothing are to be provided by William Gascoigne. Sir William Plumpton is to be bound in the sum of 400m for the performance of his obligations.
