Indenture between Sir William Pierpoint, kt, guardian of Elizabeth Sotehill, and Sir Marmaduke Constable, kt, and John his son, as guardians of Jane Sotehill, Sir John Rocliffe, kt, and Dame Margaret, his wife of the one party and Sir Robert Plompton, kt, and William his son of the other, witnessing that after divers variances over the right, title and possession of the manor of Plumpton and other lands, formerly the estate of the late Sir William Plompton, the parties have agreed to stand and perform the award of the arbitrators [no. 75] who having awarded the manor of Plumpton [etc.] to Sir Robert and William and the lawful heirs male of Sir Robert, Sir John Rocliffe and others of the aforesaid first party agree to meet Sir Robert’s reasonable requirements for the making of a legal settlement of the premises thus awarded to him.
Also Sir William Pierpont and Sir Marmaduke Constable and his son agree to enfeoff 8 persons in an estate to the clear yearly value of £40 out of certain lands in Yorks or Notts that are of the inheritance of each to secure the agreement of Jane and Elizabeth Sotehill and their husbands when of full age. In case of their refusal the feoffees shall be seised of the premises to the sole use of Sir Robert and William and the heirs male of Sir Robert, but if they agree to the legal arrangements entered into as above, then the feoffment shall remain to the sole use of the feoffors. The costs of the feoffment in either case are to be borne by Sir Robert and his son, or they to pay 53s 4d to the other party.
