134 Geoffrey Beyton, abbot of Lilleshall,1 to Sir Robert Plumpton 26 May
[?1499] (No. 66, p. 39)Right worshipfull Sir, I comand me to you, beyng glad to here of your
welfaire. Sir, I hartely thank you for my tennaunts of Arkenden, praying
you of good contynuance, and also for your wryting, the which ye send
vnto me towching to the lands of myne in Arkenden. Sir, I haue sent
to you by my servant, Thomas Morton, the copis of my evydents of
the ix acres of land, the which they clame intrest for the king, and I
trust þat I haue sent to you such wrytting as shall dyscharg that matter.
Sir, I pray you þat ye will shew my matters according to right & after
your good mynd, for I remytt all vnto your good wysdome. Sir, it is so
þat I am a yong beginner of the world in my office, & Sir, for your
good will and counsell I will þat my officer reward to you yearly vjs
viijd as was rewarded to other men afor tyme, praying you of your
good contynuance; and anything as I can, [I will,] as God [knoweth,]
who have you in his blessed keeping. Amen. Written at Lilleshull, the

Endorsed: To the worshipfull in God, Sir Robart Plompton knight these
letters be deliuered in hasta Appended: Copied the 11 day of March 1612.

To the worshipfull in God Master Plompton, knight, these letters
be delivered in hast.Right worshipfull Sir, I comand me to you, beyng glad to hare

Your loving frind, THE ABBOT OF LILLISHULL.a Arkendale, in the parish of Knaresborough, had been given to the abbey of Lil-
leshull, com. Salop, by Hilaria Trusbut in the reign of Hen. II. with housebote and
haybote in the woods of Kirkdighton and Ingmanthorp. (Mon. Ang. vol. I.p. 146b.)
She was the wife of Everard de Ros. Sir Robert Plumpton, as was usual with men of
worship at the time of writing, acted as steward for the abbey.
