30 13 February 1468
Evidence given by Robert Littester, aged 40,1 chaplain to Sir William Plompton, kt, before the official of the civil court at York to the effect that about 11 years previously he had accompanied Sir William as far as Skipton-on-Swale when the latter was riding to a muster called to meet a threat from the Scots. Before they parted Sir William revealed to him the secret of his marriage to Joan Wintringham, asserting that she was indeed his true, married wife, and charging him with the duty of testifying to the legality of the marriage when called upon to do so, should Sir William chance to die in battle.
