Bond by Marmaduke Constable, kt, of Yorks, John Constable, esq., of the
same, John Rocliffe, kt, formerly of Cowthorpe, Yorks, and William Perpoynte,
kt, formerly of Holme, Notts, to stand in an obligation of 1,000m to Robert
Plompton, kt, formerly of Plumpton, Yorks, and William Plompton, esq.,
formerly of Waterton, Lines, his son, payable at Easter next coming after the
date of these presents, 20 March 1515.
Condition: that they abide by the award of Richard Fox, bishop of Winchester, Sir Thomas Lovell, kt, treasurer of the king’s household, Robert Brudenell, justice, and John Earnley, king’s attorney, arbitrators chosen by the parties, viz. Sir John Rocliffe and Dame Margaret, his wife, as cousin and heir to Sir William Plompton, kt, deceased, Sir Marmaduke Constable and John, his son, and Sir William Perpoynte as guardians of Elizabeth and Jane Sotehill, also cousins and heirs of Sir William, of one party, and Sir Robert Plompton, kt, and William, his son, of the other, to decide upon the right, title and possession of and in all the manors, lands, tenements and hereditaments in Grassington, Steeton, Studley Roger, Idle, Plumpton and within the parish of Spofforth, the Derbyshire manors of Edensor, Hassop, Darley, and the Notts manor of Kinoulton, together with the advowsons of the churches, chapels and chantries, all formerly of the inheritance of Sir William Plompton or to persons to his use. Also upon all other matters at issue between the parties before the above date.
They, Sir Marmaduke Constable and others having claim to the disputed premises shall hold and adhere to the award of the arbitrators, provided it is given in writing before Easter, otherwise the obligation will be void.
