Bond by Brian Roucliff, 3rd baron of the exchequer, John, his son, Thomas Roucliff and Peter Ardern, esqrs, to stand firmly in an obligation to William Plompton of Plumpton, kt, and Robert Plompton, junior, esq., in the sum of 1,000m, payable to them or their lawful attorneys at Michaelmas next after the date of these presents, 29 May 1480. Condition: that Brian, John, his son, and Margaret, his wife, abide by the award of Thomas Burgh, William Gascoigne, Robert Constable, Hugh Hastings, kts, Robert Sheffeld, William Eland, Thomas FitzWilliam, Thomas Middleton, Edward Saltmarsh, Miles Metcalf, John Everingham and John Dawney, arbitrators chosen by both the above parties, 10 or 8 of them, of whom the aforesaid Thomas Burgh, William Gascoigne, Robert Sheffield, Thomas Middleton, John Everingham and John Dawney are to be 6, either William Eland or Thomas FitzWilliam to be a seventh, and Edward Saltmarsh or Miles Metcalf to be the eighth. To adjudicate on the right, title, possession, claim and interest in all and singular lordships, manors, lands and tenements with their appurtenances which are of the aforesaid Sir William or of any to his use or that of his heirs. Also upon all causes of dispute between the parties, provided the award is given in writing before 2 Feb. next, otherwise the obligation will be null and void.1
