Most & honorable & worshipfull master, of whom myne intellygence &
service lyes vnto, with all due recomendations in þe most humylitywyse
þat I can thinke, or may. I recomend me vnto your worthy estate,
beseching you of this simple wryting & matter to giue audience &
intelleccyon, vnder what forme þe wrytting is made to you in preue.
Please you to vnderstand, the cause of my writting is this: your lordship
of Stanton,a wher þat I dwell, is made lesser of rent & halfe your
valow, & yt may contynew so, & be suffered of you & yours, be the
gressing of xx oxen be yere [. . .]b for ther be such men dwelling in
Stanton þat thus deale, þat will no other way but so; they will haue yt
by ther [p. 121] seying be yt right or wrong; & yt please you to send
your counsell over to hold a court, he shall haue such informacion be
vs þat be your tenaunts, þat your lifflod shalbe saued & kept vnto
you & yours, with þe grace of God, who haue you in his blessed
keeping; & vppon this conclusion, & yt please you so to do, þat you
seek up your evydence of a place is called Renald Riding, vnder what
forme you haue yt, for except your euidence specyfie, you be lyke to
goe without yt; & if yt please you þat these things here wryttin shalbe
performed, I besech you þat I may haue answere fir to make your
tenaunts perfect under what forme ye wold haue them demeaned, &
they & I to be redy to do you a pleasure with our body & our goods,
with þe grace of God, who defend you & yours, Amen.c

To my right worshipfull master, Sir Robart Plompton, kt. be this
